The UK's 720 Montessori schools are to have their own national association, with Scotland the first of ten regions to be established. Philip Bujak, chief executive of Montessori St Nicholas, said unifying the movement was one of the principal aims in Montessori's mission statement and that it had been backed by 60 per cent of schools in a survey last year. 'They wanted greater unity, an all-embracing, grassroots movement for all people involved in Montessori education, not just school heads but also teachers, parents and researchers.' Rosie Pressland, principal of Yorkshire's Pocklington Montessori School, is to be the inaugural national president of the new association.

At the heart of the vision is support for children and their families which will be near to home, when they need it and throughout their childhood. The support would be delivered through 10,000 Children's Centres for birth to 16s which would be based around schools. The Centres would bring key services together into an integrated service - backed up by an integrated children's workforce and integrated children's funding programme.

If you are using a desktop PC then you will have to connect it through the monitor socket at the back of the machine. If you are using a laptop then you will need to set it for external monitor use. This is usually with one of the function keys, F4 or F5; it sometimes has a picture of a monitor on it. Hold down the Fn key, usually bottom right of the keyboard, and press the correct function key.
