As a rat that has left the sinking ship I feel a bit of a fraud seconding this motion. Government childcare policies are failing to address the complexity of the daily life of the modern working woman, according to new research published last week, which found that women continue to bear the brunt of juggling childcare arrangements and the 'school run'. The study, led by Professor Linda McDowell at University College London, looked at who does what in the home, including managing childcare if parents work shifts.

The school children experimented with clay, tile-making, and glazes with the help of Dundee artist Stephen Bird in a project funded by the Scottish Arts Council. Children under eight should not use mobile phones because of the potential risk of adverse health effects, a leading expert warned last week. Sir William Stewart, chair of the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB), said parents should take a 'precautionary approach' to minimise mobile use by young children, despite a lack of conclusive proof that radiation emitted by the phones and masts is dangerous to public health.
