The winners will receive a specially designed apron and the council will produce a book of the winning recipes.

Janet Marriott is looking forward to a hefty pay rise, a new career path and a rise in status thanks to the Nottinghamshire pay deal. An NNEB with 25 years' experience, Janet has been stuck on the highest pay point in Grade 2 for years, unable to move further up the pay ladder. Currently earning about 12,700 she says, 'My salary has risen very slowly, the problem being that I've been at point 15 in the spinal column for years and there was no way of going beyond it.' All that will change in September when she will move to at least point 18 and a salary of 13,764. Once her 17 years' experience at Albany Infant and Nursery School is taken into account, her salary could rise to 16,203, the salary now on offer at the top of Grade 2. The rises will be backdated to April.

Even young children can be at risk from alcohol abuse in their homes. Maggie Jones says it's never too soon to educate them about drinking Molly (not her real name) was a quiet girl at nursery, but appeared to settle in well, although sometimes she did seem a little withdrawn. The staff became aware that there was a problem, however, when her mother sometimes failed to turn up to the nursery on time. On several occasions when she came to collect Molly the staff suspected that her mother had been drinking.

Educational therapist Andrea Clifford Poston answers your queries about child behaviour Q I have sole charge of two girls, aged three and five. Their parents frequently work abroad. The girls are used to this and seem to take it in their stride. However, recently they were away for two weeks, and I found the five-year-old was taking money from the car parking tin in the car and hiding it in her shoe. She stopped when her parents returned, but now she is stealing things like sweets and biscuits. She sobs bitterly when she is discovered but continues to steal. How can I stop her?
