Tinies has lost its battle to keep from disclosing a confidential reference from a former employer that had been demanded by a nursery nurse on its books. The Information Commissioner's Office told the nanny and nursery staff agency that it must reveal what the referee said - but it did also rule that each case should be considered on its own merits. This, said Tinies director Ben Black, meant that by fighting this particular case they had avoided a blanket policy of disclosure that could put children at risk. 'Nursery managers and parents would think that it was not worth the recriminations with a former employee if they give them a poor reference they might deserve,' he said. 'That is why I am pleased that we can still withhold reference details in some circumstances.'
