The Big Picture - Sensing A Story

Monday, April 30, 2018

New children’s literature exhibition Time to Get Up offers an interactive, sensory experience of stories.

The exhibition at Seven Stories – the National Centre for Children’s Books in Newcastle, encourages visitors to touch, smell, hear and see the stories displayed using a new method inspired by touch-and-feel boards.

Original manuscripts and artwork celebrating everyday life and family routine by authors including Judith Kerr, Nick Sharratt and John Burningham enable children to explore ways of engaging directly with stories.

The exhibition is part of the Read North East initiative led by the National Literacy Trust (NLT).

Clare Argar, the NLT’s head of campaigns and programmes, said, ‘We hope the Time to Get Up exhibition will encourage more families to make reading part of their daily routine.’
