NW conference: Two-year-olds - policy and practice

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Leading early years experts will be offering essential information and advice on policy and provision for two-year-olds at Nursery World’s conference in London on 9 July

Bringing delegates up to date on the funding and rollout of the free places for two-year-olds will be James Hempsall. As director of Hempsalls, he is leading the 'Achieving Two-Year-Olds’ support programme for early years settings with Mott MacDonald for the Department for Education.

Providing a detailed look at the essentials of best practice will be early years consultant Julia Manning-Morton. To follow, Kate Hayward and Andrea Layzell from the Pen Green Research Base will explain how the centre's Being Two Project is helping in the drive to improve quality of provision.

There will be sessions too on ‘The Progress Check Two’. As well as setting out the planned changes to the assessment, experts will also be explaining how settings can make the Check a positive experience for both parents and practitioners.

Both in the morning and to round off the day’s programme there will be a series of best practice workshops. Themes covered include transitions, behaviour, communication and language and developmentally appropriate play experiences.
