The big picture: Getting the bug

Monday, April 20, 2015

The children at Everton Nursery School and Family Centre created a bug castle as part of a collaborative eco-venture with the early years team at John Moores University.

Students from the university have been working with the three- and four-year-olds over a number of weeks to create the castle for bugs, while developing their knowledge of minibeasts and construction.

The bug castle, designed by the children, is made from recycled materials donated by parents and the university. Students also helped children to create nesting logs to be placed inside the structure.

Now the bug castle is complete, children are able to observe minibeasts in their natural habitat, which has promoted discussion about nature, exploration and eco-sustainability.
