MARK’S MARKET MAGIC

All providers: If you ask your staff to attend training or teambuilding sessions outside of working hours, make sure you don’t slip up and end up falling foul of the national minimum wage legislation. The extra time spent by the staff at work could mean that when you aggregate their working hours, they drop below minimum wage, so may have to be paid more.

Avoid: Out-of-date training contracts. Hopefully disputes will be few and far between, but clear terms and conditions will help minimise any risk. Fee disputes are one of the most common disagreements, so make sure your charging structure and notice period are set out clearly. Remember: the roll-out of the new 30 hours offer may mean that you have to revisit your existing terms of business.
