This session will support teachers/practitioners to:

  • Reflect on the cycle of observation, assessment and planning and how this can be used effectively to support children's learning
  • Consider the importance of observation and what makes an effective observation
  • Consider how to identify children's individual needs and interests, including children's starting points and ongoing achievements
  • Reflect on ways to ensure assessments are accurate
  • Consider the importance of involving parents and ways to involve parents
  • Reflect on the different stages of planning, long term, medium term and short term and the role of adult directed and child initiated learning
