- Animal wizardry
Bishopswood Day Nursery in Reading, Berkshire, got into the Halloweenspirit when Wizard Walt from Animal Education brought in his collectionof animals and creepy crawlies to visit. The children had theopportunity to touch or hold a mouse, a snake, a bearded dragon and ascorpion.
- Make and bake
Children at Little Acorns Nursery in Gomersal, West Yorkshire, madegingerbread people, animal biscuits, chocolate crispies and fairy cakesto mark National Baking Week from 19 to 25 October. Deputy managerRachael Crossley said, 'Throughout the week all the rooms made differentthings. Lots of fun was had by all the children, especially when theygot to eat what they had made.'
- Harvesting art
Children, parents and staff at Ashbridge Independent School and Nurseryin Hutton, Preston, swopped their traditional Harvest Festival for anautumn art adventure. The children hunted for leaves, nuts and bugs inthe setting's wooded area and used them to create seasonal collages.

Headstarts Nursery Robert Le Kyng in Swindon, Wiltshire, supported thecharity Breast Cancer Campaign with a pink-themed day for the Wear ItPink fundraising drive. The children enjoyed various activities, withsome involving pink gloop, and raised 40 for the charity.
- Let's say Ole
Everything took on a Spanish flavour at Portico Kindergarten in Aughton,Lancashire, when it celebrated Spain's national day on 12 October. Thechildren painted pictures of the Spanish flag, tasted a fish paella,danced to Spanish music and practised saying some Spanish words.

Children at Treetops Grove Nursery School in Headingley, Leeds, weredelighted with the news that all of their entries for the competition'My First Poem: Me and My Family' have been published in the My FirstPoem anthology by Young Writers, which encourages creative writing inearly years and schoolchildren.
