Ofsted’s chief inspector, Sir Martyn Oliver, has confirmed in a letter to the education minister that a formal response to its consultation, which was due to be published this summer, has been pushed back due to the scale of feedback it received to give the inspectorate more time to analysis responses and carry out further testing of proposals.

The consultation, which set out changes to inspections, the introduction of a new report card to replace a single effectiveness grade, plans for new inspection toolkits and measures to make inspections more consistent, received over 6,000 responses.

Ofsted has also carried out over 200 test visits to early years settings, schools, further education and skills providers and commissioned YouGov to carry our surveys and focus groups with professionals and parents.
