I will not ever never eat a tomato

(Photograph) - The Greenaway Medal for outstanding illustration in a children's book was awarded by the Library Association last week to I Will Not Ever Never Eat A Tomato by Lauren Child (Orchard Books). Picky eater Lola and her inventive older brother Charlie star in the book, where mashed potato becomes 'cloud fluff from Mount Fuji' and tomatoes turn into 'moon squirters'. Sarah Wilkie, chair of the Library Association's Youth Libraries Group judges, said, 'Lauren Child has a real insight into how a child's mind works and a gift for finding the magic in the everyday. Her work is deceptively simple and speaks to today's visually literate children. She has taken a classic picture book theme and interpreted it in a fresh, modern, edgy style, using a unique combination of paint, photographs, computer generated artwork and typography.'
