Judges praised the book, which is about traveller fairies in an urban setting, as 'extraordinarily heart-warming and accomplished'. The winner was announced at a ceremony at the British Library last Friday. Mr Graham said he would give his 5,000 prize money to groups that help the education of asylum seekers and refugees in Britain and Australia.
Mr Graham, who has received awards for his humanitarian work, said, 'People are arriving vulnerable, dispossessed and traumatised, often escaping from brutal regimes, wanting nothing more than a better and safer life. I'd like these books to be a small expression of support to help them on their feet in a new environment.'
