Allan Levy QC, Britain's top legal expert on children's rights, died of cancer earlier this month aged 62. He first made headlines in 1987 when he challenged a High Court ruling that a 17-year old girl with Down's syndrome should be sterilised. Most recently, he led demands for a smacking ban that is now a key part of the Children's Bill.
