By Andrew Ireland, children's services group director at Havering Borough Council
Early identification of vulnerable and hard-to-reach children and their families and the provision of support services to them are at the heart of our planning of children's centres in Havering, Greater London. This can only be achieved by ensuring parental involvement is at the forefront in planning the core offer of individual centres.
All centres actively encourage the involvement of children and their parents in planning for their future. For young children, this occurs by observations and by learning through play. For older children the opportunity is given for them to talk about their desires and aspirations.
