Toys that teach

I was quite surprised by the playgroup staff's response concerning a child bringing a toy chainsaw into the playgroup. Did it not occur to them that the child had not seen 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and knows only that a chainsaw is for cutting down trees and branches? Being from the city I would assume that chainsaws are more common in rural communities and therefore not out of place. One can regard most objects in our society as dangerous, but through example, direction and observation children learn how to use them safely and put them to their intended use.
