Position: Senior nursery nurse, Imagine Co-operative Childcare at JohnRadcliffe Hospital in Oxford
When did you discover one of your ancestors was a founder of theCo-operative movement?
I remember my nan always saying that my great-great-great- grandfatherWilliam Mallalieu was one of the Rochdale Pioneers. When her birthdaycame up in May this year I began researching it. He worked in thewoollen industry when the first Co-operative Society was founded in 1844and later became a bookkeeper.
What does that mean to you?
I now work at Imagine, which is part of the Midcounties Co-operative.Imagine is a great company to work for. They treat their staff reallywell and have the children's interests at heart. The Co-op has sent meinformation and portrait pictures. It was quite spooky for me because Ican see the family resemblance. I remember my great-granddad very welland he always remembered William very well, so there's a real link!
