Resources

White and green card, red paper, scissors, black marker pen, glue, adhesive covering

Step by step

* Cut a large snake out of white card. Ask the children to draw a face at one end and add a forked tongue, cut from red paper.

* Divide the snake into ten sections using a black marker pen and write the figures 1 to 10 along the snake's body. Decorate with bright patterns.

* Cut two large leaves out of green card and glue them together at the top and bottom, leaving a gap large enough to thread the snake through. Ensure that the leaf is large enough to cover a number when placed over it.

* Laminate the number snake and the leaf for longer life.

* With the leaf on the head of the snake, count the sections of the snake with the children.

* Without the children looking, slide the leaf along the snake so that it covers one of the numbers.

* Ask the children to see if they can guess which number has been hidden.

* Have the children work in pairs, with one child moving the leaf and the other child guessing the covered number.
