Help from above

Children at Little Harriers Day Nursery in Dunsfold, Surrey, werevisited by the Surrey Air Ambulance last month as part of their PeopleWho Help Us topic. They learned about the role of the air ambulance inthe community and were given a guided tour of the helicopter.

An outstanding ride

Staff from Kinder Park Nursery in Carlisle, Cumbria, went for a nightout in a Hummer limo to celebrate an 'Outstanding' Ofsted inspection.Nursery manager Joanne Routledge said, 'I am immensely proud of my teamand the celebrations were well deserved.'

Down to the woods

Children at Little Acorns Day Nursery in Gomersal, West Yorkshire, wenton a nature walk in their local woods to explore the changes of autumn.Claire Codd, a senior from the pre-school room, said, 'We decided to goin small groups to examine leaves and trees with magnifying glasses. Thechildren loved exploring by themselves and in groups.'

Dairy date

Hampshire childminders and their charges, aged from one to nine years,were treated to a day out at Bisterne Farm, a local working dairy farm,by Hampshire Country Learning. They saw how cows are milked, rode on amilking carousel and helped feed the cows. Emma Angel, a childminderfrom the New Forest, said, 'The children couldn't stop talking about theday and what they had learned. They came back with a knowledge of wheremilk comes from and what a real farm is like.'

Abseil with Emmerdale

Staff from Daisy Chain Childcare, which has four nurseries in Yorkshire,were joined by the cast of ITV's 'Emmerdale' soap to abseil 30m down theLeeds Carnegie building and raise money for the local disabled anddisadvantaged children's charity Cash for Kids.

First aid training

Free first aid and child safety training is available in seminars byTesco Baby and Toddler Club Babysafe Campaign. Run in partnership withthe Royal Life Saving Society and supported by celebrity mum Terri Dwyer(pictured), the campaign has places for more than 2,500 parents andchildcarers, at sessions around the UK between November 2009 and March2010.
