Happy eighteenth

Children, parents and staff celebrated the 18th birthday of Tops DayNursery at the Royal Hampshire Hospital in Winchester, Hampshire, withan open day and a disco in April. The nursery highlighted the landmarkwith a brand new look following a recent makeover.

Road sense

Chatterbox House Day Nursery in Bexley, Kent, is celebrating afterwinning first prize in a competition on road safety, organised byTransport for London. Children at Chatterbox were visited by the TrafficClub in April and characters such as Handy Hold, Larry Look and SammySeatbelt talked to them about road safety and awareness. The childrendrew pictures of their favourite Traffic Club characters, which weremade into a display and entered into the competition by nursery nurseRachelle Donald.

Waddle on the farm

Children from Bell Green Children's Centre in Coventry, West Midlands,raised 495 for the Meningitis Trust in a sponsored toddle waddle.The children, from 32 families, took part in a variety of craftactivities before toddling around a farm to feed the animals. Earlyyears worker Jenny Brown said, 'We thought it was a good opportunity forfamilies to enjoy Easter fun while raising money to help other children.We would like to thank all the families that took part and all of thesponsors for their kind donations.'

New breakfast and after-school clubs are being opened in London bycharitable provider Schoolfriend etc. The breakfast club at Crawfordprimary school in Southwark will run daily during term time from 19 May.The after-school club at Poplar primary school in Merton Park,south-west London, is to open on 12 May.

Music for free

Free music for children is being offered to nurseries by Hudson PR, amusic and entertainment public relations agency. Hudson is promoting arange of children's albums and will give nurseries free copies to playin their settings along with posters and flyers. A website aimed at parents of children under nine years old has beenlaunched by the NSPCC. It is the online version of the NSPCC'saward-winning Your Family magazine and features real-life stories,expert advice, ideas for days out and cookery recipes. Parents can alsoshare advice and support via the discussion forums, upload family photosand celebrate their children's achievements on a 'Well Done Wall'. Thesite is at www.yourfamily.org.uk.

Photo of the week: Children from Clever Clogs Nursery in Belmont,Durham, went down to the woods for a teddy bears' picnic in celebrationof their nursery's first birthday in April. Lots of teddies attended thepicnic and the children made them feel at home by singing songs andsharing their party food. Owner of Clever Clogs, Andrea Townsley,organised the event to thank children and parents for their supportthroughout the nursery's first 12 months.
