Autumn's here
Nurseries across the country have been celebrating the arrival ofautumn. Children at Town House Nursery in Stoke-on-Trent collectedleaves, conkers and seasonal fruits and created a scarecrow. ElvethamHeath Day Nursery and Pre-School in Fleet, Hampshire, taught thechildren about the different seasons and introduced them to leafprinting. Moonacre Montessori Nursery in Verwood, Dorset, welcomedrangers from the Moors Valley Countryside, who showed the children howto make clay faces in trees and identify leaves in the nursery'sorchard.
Healthy high street
To learn about healthy eating, children at Kidsunlimited Waterwaysnursery in Oxford visited the local supermarket and also stopped at anearby cafe to enjoy a glass of milk.
Masterchefs
Children at the Children's Ark Day Nursery in Cambridge have beenlearning how to cook with the nursery's chef. They helped to makecookies which they took home for their families.
Feed the birds
Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Nottingham took part in the RSPB's Feedthe Birds Day last month with a visit to Aboretum Park. The childrenwere treated to a tour by the park's ranger and learned how they couldhelp look after birds and other wildlife during the cold winter.
Black history month
Early Years Childcare in Greenwich marked Black History month in Octoberwith a visit from the Standout Theatre Company, who performed theirproduction of 'Akenke Goes to the Jungle'.
Fruity Friday
St John's College in Southsea, Portsmouth, held its first Fruity Fridaylast month for the preprep children, who made fruit kebabs and smoothiesas well as art prints using apples. Head of pre-prep, Claire Davies,said, 'It was a fantastic morning to highlight the importance of fruitin our diet. The children really enjoyed getting involved and trying outnew activities and tastes. A big thank-you to Waitrose in Southsea, whokindly donated lots of fruit.'
Sweet pet
Children at Stepping Stones Montessori Nursery in Poole, Dorset,welcomed their new white gerbil, named Sugar, to the setting. ManagerSally Law said, 'Sugar is fast becoming a popular member of thenursery.'
Bonfire fun
Children from the Hall Day Nursery in Sheffield, Yorkshire, helped makea bonfire to celebrate the fifth of November. The children were involvedin every way, from transporting sand and bricks to collecting wood andmaking a safety barrier. After all their hard work they enjoyed roastingmarshmallows and jacket potatoes on the fire.
