Toddling the plank
Children at Head Start Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire,raised 350 for the Meningitis Trust when they took part in apirate-themed Toddle Waddle. The event saw children and staff dress upas pirates, walk the plank and search for treasure.
Italian job
Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Poole, Dorset, enjoyed holding an Italianweek, during which the children made their own pasta and pizza.
Childminder carnival
Childminders from Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, and the children in theircare took part in a carnival to mark last month's National ChildmindingWeek. The event, hosted by the borough's seven children's centres,included face painting, a nature trail and a singing activity by MusicJigsaw.
Playing out
Church Road Centre Pre-School at St Anne's on Sea in Lancashirecelebrated the opening of its refurbished outdoor area with a party forparents, families and friends of the pre-school.
Road role play
Children at Leeds Montessori School and Day Nursery in West Yorkshireenjoyed a visit from the Road Safety Team as part of a People Who HelpUs topic. Nursery teacher Jayne Wardle said, 'The children thoroughlyenjoyed the visit. They had so much fun roleplaying on the zebracrossing and singing stop, look and listen songs.'
Charity walkers
Children from Tiddlywinks Nursery in Shrewsbury donned hand-madeT-shirts to take part in a sponsored walk to raise money for their localchildren's hospice. The children enjoyed a special lunch as a reward fortheir efforts.
Team success
Congratulations to David Hancock, managing director of TreetopsNurseries, and his team for completing the Artemis Great Kindrochitquadrathlon on 10 July (see Spotlight, 1 July). The team of four,including chairman Alan Proto, facilities manager Sean Rogan and financedirector Clare Wilson, raised 4,500 for international developmentcharity Mercy Corps.
