I am trained to NNEB standard and have done other training besides throughout the 11 years, even though I knew what low pay I was going to get and that the money was never going to be there.
I must say, though, that it would be nice to have the pay that reflects the workload, but the reason I work and stay where I am is because, quite simply, I love my job working with the children.
It melts my heart when I hear children say, 'I love you', or 'When I grow up I want to be just like you.' These are things that I hear every day, and this, plus making a difference in a child's life because of their behaviour or autism problems, is the reward I would rather have.
I agree that all childcarers need to have good and relevant training, but come on ladies, enjoy your job. If it's money you want, then don't work in education. You should know by now there's no money here.
