Road safety must be a top priority for Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, following the release of new figures showing a rise in accidents involving children. Latest Department for Transport statistics show a 13 per cent increase in deaths among child pedestrians, and a 55 per cent increase among child cyclists from 2005 to 2006. The RoSPA called the figures 'disastrous' and urged the Prime Minister to make road safety a fundamental part of education, health and environmental policies as well as transport.
