Previously, children at the Croileagan Bhearnaraigh Gaelic pre-school were required to make the long journey from Great Bernera to Stornoway - the main town on the Isle of Lewis, to which Great Bernera is joined by bridge - in order to play safely outside, but now the school has managed to secure a room and outdoor play area at the community centre in Breacleit, Great Bernera.
Funded by Children in Need, the Western Isles council Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Western Isles Enterprise, the new development is a far cry from the old set-up in the Taigh Ceilidh, or meeting-house, in the village of Dun Innes on Great Bernera, which had no space for outdoor equipment.
