Gene linked to obesity

The first gene linked to obesity makes some children find it harder to tell when they are full, says a new study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

Over 3,000 children aged eight to 11 were studied by researchers fromUniversity College London and the Institute of Psychiatry, King'sCollege London, to see how the FTO gene affected their appetite andmetabolism. Children with a higher risk version of the FTO gene weremore likely to overeat and not recognise when they feel full.
