Parents hinder effective obesity prevention strategies

Parents are hindering effective obesity prevention strategies because they refuse to accept their child has a weight problem, says a new study.

Researchers at Newcastle University asked parents of children aged sixto eight in the Gateshead Millennium Study to rate their child's weight,with 95 per cent of parents of overweight children describing theirweight as normal. Parents also believed that children go through phasesof chubbiness or 'puppy fat' that they would grow out of.
