New online training course
To kick off the National Literacy Trust’s 25th anniversary this year, the charity has launched a new online training course exclusively available to members. The Foyle Primary School Library course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to transform their school library, including how to choose the right books, how to make the most of their library space and ways to engage the whole school community with reading.
The charity will also be holding a series of events and activities throughout 2018 to mark its anniversary year. Since the National Literacy Trust launched in 1993, it has worked directly with two million children, raised £10m from businesses to support literacy, and has seen a 22 per cent increase in the number of children achieving a ‘good level’ of English at GCSE.
Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust, said, ‘We’re so excited to be giving 25 settings and schools the chance to win National Literacy Trust membership for a whole year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. Since 1993, a lot of literacy initiatives have come and gone in the UK and some great strides have been made in raising children’s literacy levels. Teachers have played a vital role in this progress and, through National Literacy Trust membership, we want to help them to transform the literacy skills of even more children by giving them the tools, resources and inspiration they need to deliver outstanding literacy provision.’
