The Early Years Alliance (EYA) is making the call following the commitment of £370m in funding for School-Based Nurseries (SBN) in the Spending Review and after a number of PVI settings have been forced off the school site they operate on.

In April, Nursery World reported that the SBN policy is leading to duplication of already available provision, forcing some PVIs out of business, and in some cases could actually reduce local childcare places.

Under the first phase of the scheme, 300 SBNs have been approved and will receive a share of £37m in Government funding to re-purpose spare space for new or expanded nursery provision.
