A campaign to get families to make a Fire Action Plan at home is urging them to identify all practical escape routes, keep exits clear and practise the plan with everyone in the household. The plan should also make sure everyone knows where door and window keys are kept, and identify when it is safer to stay put. Launching the 'How will you get out alive?' campaign last week, fire safety minister Phil Hope said, 'By making a plan and installing a working smoke alarm you can save yourself valuable time to escape before it is too late.' A national TV advertising campaign is supported by the Fire and Rescue Service in England and Wales as well as businesses and charities. For more information, see www.firekills.gov.uk. Leaflets on fire safety in the home are on the website www.odpm.gov.uk.
