Fathers should be given 12 months' paid parental leave

Fathers should be given 12 months' paid parental leave, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has said, proposing to replace current maternity and paternity leave arrangements with 19 weeks of paid leave shared by both parents.

The LibDems' paper The Best Start for Children, the Best Deal forFamilies says the proposal would ensure both parents at least sevenmonths off if the full entitlement was taken, with the precise amount oftime taken by each parent up to the individual.
