Opinion

Opinion: Editor's view - With autumn upon us, there's plenty to look forward to

It's hard to believe that it's already the last week of the summer holidays, with hopes for some hot, sunny days fading fast! More importantly, for early years practitioners, the start of September also means the official start of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the new Ofsted inspection system.

Ofsted's Director, Children, Michael Hart, tells us that his team is all ready to go, in an exclusive interview with Nursery World about Ofsted's new early years report (see News, pages 4-5).

This autumn, Nursery World will be full of exciting new features to support you in keeping up to date with all the changes, implementing the EYFS and providing the best service for children and their families.

Next week, children's minister Beverley Hughes begins an exclusive monthly column for Nursery World, talking directly to our readers about Government early years and childcare policy. Your responses will be very welcome.

The EYFS team of experts at Primary National Strategies, under Ruth Pimentel, will be writing monthly good-practice features for us on the new framework, with subjects ranging from 'Observing development and learning' to 'Play and exploration'. These will run in the second issue of each month.

Maria Robinson's fantastic Child Development pull-out series reaches its final part this week (see centre pages), but we're delighted that she is returning as our 'agony aunt', answering readers' questions about child behaviour.

Our new pull-out series (fourth issue each month) is a great four-part guide to being an inclusive setting - a vital subject that seldom receives enough attention. And Tried and Tested, our ever-popular equipment series, makes a comeback.

Happy reading!
