Your opinion: Letters - Halt this fee rise

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has released a consultation.

'Future Approach to Fees and Subsidies', which outlines plans toincrease the registration fees for childminders in England joining theOfsted registers by over 400 per cent over the next three years.

The National Childminding Association is very concerned about thepotential impact of these increases. At a time of considerable policychange, they will come as a shock to registered childminders, many ofwhom earn less than 7,000 per year, and will potentiallyundermine the sustainability of their business.

NCMA wholeheartedly supports the Government's commitment to makingchildcare available, affordable and of high quality. However theseproposals risk undermining the strategy, by reducing the number ofchildcare places available, limiting parental choice and underminingquality outcomes for children.
