Why requalify?

I want to highlight the problems people with pre-1989 qualifications are having getting them recognised. While we understand that we need to top up our knowledge in areas we didn't cover on our original courses, we feel insulted when told we need to redo another Level 3 qualification. Richard Dorrance has said another Level 3 qualification is unnecessary. But this is not the information I get when I ring CACHE.

Twenty years of experience has taught me so much more than can be learned on a college course. Just because my qualification was taken so long ago does not mean I have forgotten what I learned.

I have been researching this situation for the past year and have found many unhappy and disillusioned childcare professionals. Between us we have years of experience and knowledge to pass on to newer members of staff. The DfES told me it doesn't want to lose people like us and that as long as we have had no long career breaks and have kept up to date with current issues, that is fine. But this is not the answer we get from other organisations.
