Why High/Scope?

In response to the letter from Adriano Caria (14 October) I would like to clarify why High/Scope UK has joined with CACHE to achieve inclusion on the national qualification framework for our High/Scope Implementation Course. High/Scope UK has over nine years' experience of delivering the programme throughout the UK. Many practitioners who have completed the course have gone on to implement the High/Scope approach in their settings. They report to us that it has supported the development of active learning, problem solving and autonomy for the children in their care. The course can be, and has been, taken by practitioners from all sectors, who have included nursery nurses, teachers and head teachers.

From our emerging strategy to support practitioners in the UK, it became clear that it was becoming increasingly important for some participants to have the opportunity to have their work recognised as part of the national qualification framework. We therefore decided to work with CACHE on this particular Level 3 Certificate as part of our overall approach to accreditation of High/Scope courses. Furthermore, CACHE has a number of courses that seek to meet the specific needs of practitioners from a wide range of settings.
