Wage for the work

The main purpose of having a job is to earn money to live. Nursery nurses' wages are poor, and after years of asking nicely for a salary that reflects the work they do, there was little option left for the workforce but to withhold their labour.

I would guarantee that if the nursery nurses were not on strike, Margaret McInnes and Fen Crosbie (Letters, 25 March) would be praising them for looking after their children. I bet they would even say that the nursery nurses should be paid more money for the job they do.

At the start of this Parliament the Government said that the wage should reflect the job done. Then ministers awarded themselves a nice little pay rise. Well, nursery nurses are only asking for a wage that reflects the job.
