Childminders should have to employ an assistant when caring for other people's children. This would provide a safety net for the children if the childminder should become ill or was in an unfit state to care for the children in her home.
I often wonder what would happen to the children in the care of a childminder if she became ill or unconscious. I am sure the amount of money earned by childminders would enable them to employ an assistant, as minding six children at 3 an hour each easily generates enough to employ an assistant at the minimum wage.
