A crown, an apron, a plastic plate, five to ten salt-dough jam tarts, a card with the words of the rhyme on with a suitable illustration, a draw string bag to contain the above items.
Step by step
* Sit the children near to you.
* Choose a child to be King or Queen.
* Get the child to put the crown and apron on.
* Ask the King or Queen how many tarts they have baked.
* Count out the appropriate number on to the plate.
* Encourage the children to join in with the rhyme.
King/Queen ____ (child's name) of Hearts, he/she baked some tarts, All on a summer's day, Along came ____ (different child's name), he/she tasted a tart, And ate it right away.
* Continue until all the tarts have been 'eaten'.
