The charity Mencap

Childcare professionals and parents of very young children with a disability are being asked by the charity Mencap for their opinions on setting up a new centre for early intervention. The survey is seeking views on what the centre could do, how it would work and what respondents' experiences are. It will help the charity to assess the viability of a centre that could act as a one-stop shop for information, advice, research and training. Jo Williams, Mencap chief executive, said, 'Some families tread a very lonely path in those early years of bringing up a child with a disability. This survey is designed to pool parents' experiences to see if a centre for early intervention could make a real difference.' It is part of a feasibility study being co-ordinated by Mencap and the Department for Education and Skills. Professionals and parents can take part by telephoning the charity on 020 7696 6954, sending an e-mail to info@earlyintervention. org.uk or visiting the website www.earlyintervention.org.uk.
