Sticky web

Nannies have been contacting the Professional Association of Nursery Nurses about internet websites where they are urged to advertise themselves for work or respond to vacancies for a fee, ranging anywhere from 5 to 70. Tricia Pritchard, professional officer at PANN, would like to warn nannies that such websites are not regulated and cannot guarantee security of information or confidentiality. She points out that nanny agencies are governed by the Employment Agencies Act 1973 and can be fined and punished for breaching its rules, among them the ban on charging fees to workers for finding them jobs. PANN would like to see tighter rules on agencies across the board, but as for websites, Tricia says, 'Nannies, please do not be persuaded to part with your hard-earned cash - a nanny agency will help you find work for free.' Incidentally, not one of the respondents to our survey last month put websites as a way they looked for jobs.
