Management
Name: Satvinder BhurjiPosition: Manager of The Co-operative Childcare Nursery, Woolwich, London

Why are you doing the Macmillan Cuba Hiking Challenge (2-11 March 2013)?

I want to raise money for the charity in memory of my best friend who died from cancer five years ago. I've done a charity walk every year since her death, but wanted to do something a bit different.

What are your expectations for the hike?

For me, the real challenge won't necessarily be the four-day hike from Havana to Trinidad, but the camping and going back to basics. I've never camped in my life and I am in my fifties. While I have hiking experience, I'm not prepared for the steep terrain of the Cuban rainforests.

How much money do you hope to raise?

Initially I have to raise £3,500 which will go towards the costs of the hike and travel. I hope to raise a further £2,500. We held a charity fun day at the nursery last month and hope to continue with fundraising events. The Co-op has also been a great help in publicising my participation in the hike.
