Spotlight on ... Rebecca Martland, childminder

Careers & Training
Name: Rebecca Martland

Position: Childminder from Worthing, West Sussex

- How does it feel to achieve an outstanding Ofsted rating for the second time?

I was pleased with my Ofsted result. My inspection in September went very well. The little girl I was minding at the time made it by sharing with the inspector her knowledge about different types of food and staying healthy. It was a vast improvement on my first inspection years ago, when my little boy opened the door to the inspector and said he had cut his finger with scissors!

- How long have you been a childminder for?

I started childminding in 2000. Previous to that I worked in a bookshop and ran the children's department, where I did storytelling sessions.

- What else have you achieved?

I became an EYP last year and did the four months' EYPS accreditation. I also mentor other students doing their EYP, and am a member of the committee of our local childminding group, which I co-founded. The group has 70 members and is thriving.
