Position: Manager, Green Hedges Day Nursery in Scarborough
- How did you feel about being a regional winner in the British FoodFortnight Cook for Life Challenge?
We were delighted. The prize, which includes a food processor, handmixers, aprons, spatulas and tea towels, has really helped to makethings quicker and easier for our cook Wendy. We have already used theequipment to make red buns for Comic Relief and fudge for the childrento take home for Mothers' Day.
- What did you have to do?
We had to work out how far the nursery food travels and look at thenutritional value of our menus. We get most of food locally from ourfruit and vegetable man and the butcher, and use herbs that we grow atnursery so our produce doesn't have far to travel.
- What are the nursery's future plans?
We are waiting to hear about a grant from the council to develop anoutdoor mini market where we will grow fruit trees and vegetables. Weare also doing mini gym sessions for the children.
