Schools in Wales will be improved to the tune of Pounds 59.4m with funding announced by education and lifelong learning minister Jane Davidson. It includes the Grants for Education Support and Training (GEST) which aim to reduce social disadvantage. Money will also be available for special educational needs, the employment of classroom assistants and enhancing ICT facilities. Ms Davidson said, 'The Welsh Assembly is working closely with local authorities to take forward its ambitious programme for raising standards in schools. GEST funding is central to the delivery of this programme.'
