Say no to CCTV

I am writing after reading the letter about the ridiculous notion of CCTV in nursery settings being linked to the Internet ('Let's keep Big Brother out of the nursery', 5 July). I am a childminder and respite carer, and feel this idea is wide open to disaster. It should remain no more than an idea.

First, the smarter children would love to play up to the camera, knowing their parents could be watching, and make life harder for the staff.

Nurseries would also need parental consent for every child. If one parent did not give permission, what do you do then? Say to a three-year-old child, 'Please don't go in that area in case you are caught on camera?' Is this realistic?

In short, I would not send my child to a nursery with this system installed, nor would I recommend it to parents with children in my care. Any parent who is concerned with their child's daycare provision should investigate home education programmes.
