Sam Gyimah's childcare responsibilities confirmed

The responsibilities of the new childcare and education minister have now been confirmed by the Department for Education.

Under his childcare and early years brief, Sam Gyimah, parliamentary under secretary of state for childcare and education, will be responsible for:

The confirmation follows weeks of speculation by the sector about whether Sam Gyimah would be taking over the same areas overseen by Elizabeth Truss, who was promoted to environment secretary in the Cabinet's reshuffle.

It comes nearly a month after the Conservative MP for East Surrey was left to out himself on Twitter as taking on responsibility for childcare and early years on 21 July after no confirmation was forthcoming from the Department for Education.

Sam Gyimah is also parliamentary secretary at the Cabinet Office.
