Ruth Pimentel, a qualified teacher and former pre-school owner, joined the nursery chain at the beginning of March, after resigning from National Strategies last November (News, 10 November 2008). She was involved in developing the Foundation Stage from its launch in 2003 and became Early Years national director in February 2006.

Child Base, which runs 35 nurseries in the south-east of England, was ranked at 90 in the top 100 companies to work for in the Sunday Times Best Companies Survey 2009. It was the only children's daycare service provider on the list (News, 12 March 2009).
