Room for a special passenger

I have always believed that problems, no matter how big or small, are there to be solved. One of our most frustrating problems arose after Nursery World published an article about our Fajara Children's Centre, which is based in The Gambia, West Africa (27 November 2003). Having got over the initial thrill of being featured in the magazine, prepared a new display on the parents' bulletin board announcing the upcoming article and told everyone we knew, we faced a dilemma - how to get hold of a copy! Frustratingly, traditional snail mail was out, because there are no postmen, letter boxes or street names in The Gambia.

After some lateral thinking, it occurred to us that there are weekly tourist flights from Gatwick Airport. We got in touch with the Gambia Experience tour operator, who contacted their airline company on our behalf. Following a lot of good will our treasured copy of Nursery World arrived just one week later, personally delivered to the Children's Centre by the pilot. He must have dashed to the nearest newsstand, bought the magazine, hopped on the plane and flown over with it beside him in the cockpit.
