As adults we often take pattern for granted. In fact, pattern – visible and invisible - is an integral part of our everyday lives and the means by which we make sense of the world. Pattern lies at the heart of science and maths, abounds in the both the natural and man-made world and can be found in everything from music and the seasons to behaviour and our daily routines.
As humans, we actively seek out and create patterns, for the ability to identify a pattern helps us to make connections, to reason and predict. Making children aware of pattern in their world is, therefore, essential to early thought and learning, and this series of posters explores pattern in areas such as the kitchen, food and animals.
