Paid for the job

I agree with Kay Hever (Letters, 26 July) that nursery nurses and learning support assistants are grossly underpaid and undervalued. She says she does as much work as the teacher. But with her work experience, I would have expected her to realise that a teacher's salary recognises their responsibilities outside the classroom. When Kay takes overall responsibility for planning and delivering the curriculum, and the welfare of the children and other staff, deals with out-of-hours meetings and courses, and writes reports, then she will be entitled to my salary. (Yes, of course, I am a reception class teacher).
